Many of us experience difficult times in our lives and we may notice that we are struggling with day to day life which can lead to feeling anxious, depressed or other strong emotions. This can impact on how we view ourselves and the world around us. The thought of sharing our thoughts and feelings with others can feel overwhelming and we may fear being judged or burdening those around us. At times, we may feel that we don't have a voice or are misunderstood which can feel lonely and frustrating. During difficult times, we may develop ways to cope that aren't always helpful for us and can affect our lives and relationships in many ways. We may feel that we are stuck in a cycle of behaviour, feeling powerless to make the changes that might be needed for us to achieve our goals and live a happy and fulfilling life.
I believe that who we are today is largely made up of the experiences we have throughout our lives, and our journey so far. After navigating difficult times in my life I realised the power of counselling and it facilitated me in making sense of things that I had often struggled with.
Following my journey of learning about myself, I decided to change my career and studied to become a counsellor. My personal experience helped me to recognise my passion and ability to support others in moving towards a better understanding and acceptance of themselves, whilst also providing the tools for them to use for greater empowerment and autonomy.
I have been working as a counsellor for 5 years and have worked for MIND, Branches and the Telford Aftercare Team where I gained a vast amount of experience supporting adults with a wide variety of mental and emotional challenges. I currently work in different schools as a school counsellor which has provided me with a vast experience of working with children and young people, which I very much enjoy.
I work with adults, young people and children in my private practice.
